VIDEO | Faf du Plessis calls David Miller 'MSD' for quick stumping attempt
Success cannot be measured in numbers; it is rather the moments that define how successful one is. MS Dhoni might retire with the most number of stumpings to his name but his heart only will swell with pride for the fact that he has set a gold standard for everyone else with his wicket-keeping.
India
However, the same cannot be said about Dhoni, who is not only loved by one and all but is also desired. It became prominent during yesterday’s match between South Africa and Sri Lanka, when Proteas skipper Faf du Plessis complimented stand-in wicket-keeper David Miller by calling him “MSD”, for showing quick collection and attempted stumping.
The incident took place in the 32nd over when Imran Tahir was bowling to Vishwa Fernando. With Quinton de Kock forced to leave the field with an injury, Miller was asked to replace him behind the stumps to everyone’s surprise, for the hard-hitter has never been seen before taking that place in any format. But, Miller came off well and one of the highlights of his wicket-keeping was an attempted stumping from a leg-break by Tahir that Fernando had failed to connect. Miller had collected the ball in one swing before taking the bails off, although Fernando’s foot didn’t leave the crease.
Slip fielder du Plessis was quick to call him "MSD" by saying, "Aaaaa look at you go MSD". While Miller’s reaction might have reminded his skipper of his CSK captain, it reminds us of our gully cricket days when an inadvertently perfect straight drive would label us Sachin Tendulkar for one full week amongst peers.
