Rohit Sharma has revealed that the Indian openers were trying not to lose their wickets at the top of the order and then build a base before going for a big score. The man of the match also credited his good form to a positive state of mind which he has had since the birth of his daughter, Samaira.

Batting on a what appeared to be a difficult Old Trafford wicket, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul provided India with a perfect start for their clash against Pakistan yesterday. The openers provided a brilliant 136 run opening stand before Rahul was dismissed by Wahab Riaz in the 24th over. While Rohit went on to smash a wonderful 140, which earned him the Man of the Match award, he gave an insight into the Indian team's though process after the game.

“When you are playing in conditions that are going to challenge you, as a batsman, you’ve just got to assess the conditions first because the pitch was under the cover for a long time. So the idea was not to lose wickets and build a platform and try to take the game forward from after that,” Rohit said during the post match press conference, reported AFP.

“So the focus was always on that to start well and then see where the team is heading and then the individual. So, I think as a team we’re heading in the right direction."

Rohit has been unstoppable at the World Cup so far scoring fifties in all three games and converting two of them into big scores. The Indian vice captain said that he had been in a very good headspace ever since the birth of his daughter.

“It’s a very good phase in my life. Having a daughter, a newly born daughter in my life is actually has put me in a good space,” Rohit explained.

“So, yeah, I think I’m enjoying my cricket coming off a great IPL campaign, and then starting off here."
