VIDEO | England dressing room bursts into laughter as Jason Roy takes umpire down during his 100th run
While it is often seen that a batsman celebrates in ecstatic fashion once he reaches his century, how often have you seen someone taking the umpire down in the process? Jason Roy played a fine innings to score a 100 and when he was running for the 100th one, he unconsciously took the umpire down.
After a terrible outing against Pakistan, Jason Roy seemed very pragmatic in his approach and played to his strength to get to a century. While he seemed a bit vulnerable against the spinners, pacers had to suffer his wrath from the very first over.
On the penultimate ball of the 27th over, Mustafizur Rahman bowled a short ball to Roy who pulled it away towards deep square leg. Considering a fielder was stationed near the boundary, Joe Root and Roy had their eyes fixed on the batsman. The umpire was also busy watching the ball and slowly he was on the move.
Roy was on that line and he didn’t have any idea about the fact that the umpire was standing and in all honesty, Joel Wilson didn’t have any knowledge about that either. As the ball beat the square leg fielder to go for a four, the duo clashed with each other, making the entire English team burst into laughter.
