ICC Test team 2018 | Virat Kohli named captain ; Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah included
Virat Kohli was once again named as captain of the ICC Test team for the 2018 season as Indian debutants, Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah, were also included in the squad. Meanwhile, Australia’s Nathan Lyon and Kiwi duo of Tom Latham and Henry Nicholls also find a spot in the 2018 Test team.
Team India captain, Virat Kohli, has retained his spot in ICC’s Test team for the 2018 season after having led India to a historic 2-1 series triumph against Australia away from home last month. Kohli played a total of 13 Test matches last year and scored a total of 1322 runs at an average of 54.33 to hold on to number four spot in the Test team of the year, behind Kane Williamson.
Meanwhile, a fresh pair of Indian faces, Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah, have made their first appearance in the Team of the year. Pant, who made his debut in the away series against England last year, was influential in India’s recent series win against Australia. The Delhi-born batsman ended as India’s second highest run-getter in the series and also set a new record for an Indian wicket-keeper of being involved in the most dismissals in a Test match.
Bumrah, who made his Test cricket bow at the start of 2018 on the South Africa tour, has firmly established himself as a first-choice bowler in the Indian Test team. He was vital to their win in Australia and also impressed in the series against South Africa and England, which India unfortunately lost.
Other notable inclusions in the Test team for 2018 include Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon and South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada. New Zealand trio - Tom Latham, Henry Nicholls
Sri Lanka’s Dimuth Karunaratne occupies the second opener spot beside Tom Latham as Windies’ skipper Jason Holder is given the all-rounder spot in the Test team.
