IND vs WI | India need to use their spin twins: Chahal & Kuldeep, feels Simon Doull
Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull reckons that India should play both their wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal and not worry about their batting depth. Indian bowling was toothless as West Indies easily chased down the tagret of 289 with eight wickets in hand in the first ODI.
Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have been extremely successful in the middle-overs when bowling in tandem and applying pressure from both ends. So when one of them does not play, the other one feels the pressure of taking wickets in the middle-overs. One problem that India has faced in the recent past is the lack of batting depth when both Kuldeep and Chahal playing. With the likes of Hardik Pandya out injured, Kohli and India feel the need to play Ravindra Jadeja as the second spinner for wanting that batting depth.
"India have always wanted a safety net for the past few years. Even in the World Cup, they wanted the safety net in the form of Jadeja, who was a bowler who could bat," said Simon Doull in a post-match chat show on Cricbuzz.
"They would get that in a genuine all-rounder when Hardik Pandya is back. But pick Kuldeep and Chahal is what I think," Doull further added.
Doull believes that India must not worry about the batting depth as the opponent will not score many runs if both Kuldeep and Chahal bowl together at their best. Thus he is of the firm opinion that both Kuldeep and Chahal should start the next game against the West Indies as India's lack of wicket-taking ability was exposed in the first ODI.
"They are your two best spinners, your two wicket-taking spinners and that is exactly what you want," Doull explained.
