Feroz Shah Kotla to have stand named after Virat Kohli
The Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) have confirmed that Feroz Shah Kotla will soon have a stand named after Indian skipper Virat Kohli. With this, Kohli will become the third cricketer behind Bishan Singh Bedi and Mohinder Amarnath to have a stand named after at the stadium.
Virat Kohli is all set to become the youngest active cricketer to have a stand named after their name after the DDCA confirmed that Feroz Shah Kotla will have a stand to honour the Indian skipper. The news comes on the wake of the 11-year anniversary of the Delhi cricketer making his debut in international cricket.
“Virat Kohli’s outstanding contribution to world cricket has done DDCA proud. We are happy to honour him for achieving certain milestones and unbeatable captaincy record. Ferozeshah Kotla would be equally proud because Virat played here as a teenager before joining the other legends in the Hall of Fame,” DDCA president Rajat Sharma was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
The formal naming will be done at the Weightlifting auditorium, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on September 12 in a felicitation ceremony for the Indian team before their home series against South Africa. Home Minister Amit Shah and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju are expected to serve as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
“I am sure the Virat Kohli Stand will be a source of inspiration for Delhi’s young cricketers and there cannot be a better tribute to his achievements.
"We are also delighted that India is not only led by a Delhi player but also has an opening batsman (Shikhar Dhawan), a wicketkeeper (Rishabh Pant) and a lead bowler (Ishant Sharma) in its ranks. It’s a matter of pride for DDCA to felicitate the team and coach Ravi Shastri,” Sharma added.
