VIDEO | Shikhar Dhawan’s ball-watching creates epic misunderstanding to run Rohit Sharma out
Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma’s partnership has been one of the finest - not only because of the amount of runs the duo compiles but also for the understanding between them. However, all went for a toss when the duo involved themselves in an epic misunderstanding which eventually run Rohit out.
After being given a DLS revised target of 255 runs in 35 overs, the Indian openers had their task cut out and had to attack from the word go. The powerplay played a great role in that and understandably, the Indian vice-captain started in an attacking fashion. On the fourth ball of the third over, everything faltered and moved in a negative direction because hey, what is fun if you don't mess things up once in a while.
With Kemar Roach keeping the ball wide of off-stump, Dhawan cut it to the wide of backward point where Fabien Allen was stationed. The spinner did well to stop the ball by diving to his left before recovering in time to realize that Rohit Sharma had almost crossed the mid-way of the pitch.
On the other hand, Dhawan was not interested in it one bit and instead of running for the single, he was busy watching the ball. Rohit started screaming for it and when he realized that Dhawan wouldn’t be able to finish the run, he started running back towards the non-striker’s end. However, Allen was very alert in that position and sent the ball to Roach immediately to ensure that the stumps were disturbed before he could reach the ground.
