KXIP vs DC | Player Ratings - Shreyas Iyer and Co. bottle up massively as Delhi Capitals lose second game in four matches
Chasing a target of 167, Delhi Capital’s inexperience saw the team choking in epic proportions as they lost eight wickets within seven runs to bring upon themselves their second defeat of the season in four matches. After a brilliant show by the bowlers, Delhi’s batsmen let them down horribly.
Prithvi Shaw (1/10) – After an almost match-winning knock in the last match against Kolkata Knight Riders, fans were expecting the Indian prodigy to finally start delivering on the idea of him being the next big thing. However, he fell prey to Ashwin’s very first ball of the innings that left Delhi under immense pressure.

Shreyas Iyer (4/10) – Like his captaincy, his batting has been tremendously inconsistent in the league so far. But, the biggest problem has been that he has shown no signs of struggling with the bat amidst the cheap dismissals, which hints at a more concerning issue – lack of concentration. Rishabh Pant (7/10) – While the target was not a steep mountain to climb, the early wickets did make the task tricky for the youngster. Though he started off slow, the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Mujeeb continuously tempted him with the flighted deliveries every now and then. And eventually, it was Shami who trapped him with a straight ball after Pant him for a maximum at a similar length on the previous ball.
Colin Ingram (6/ 10) – With Pant taking charge, Ingram could only support the youngster and he did that brilliantly. He saw off the spinners well ensuring that he was standing at the other end while Pant went around wielding his willow in the familiar of manners. But again, come clutch time, he failed to get his side over the line for a second game running.
Hanuma Vihari (1/10) – Vihari’s nightmarish run in IPL continued as after failing to close the game against KKR in the last match, the all-rounder could score only two runs off five balls before Shami destroyed his stumps. This could very well be his last start for the franchise this season.
Harshal Patel (5/10) - Already making a name for himself with his length bowling and quick variations, Patel got the wicket of Sarfraz on his very first ball of the day. However, it was a run-out and that was the only wicket he could see in his spell. The closest he came next was when he dropped a catch that David Miller had hit straight at him. Barring that, he wasn’t the worst bowler of his team. He could have done more with the bat though.
Kagiso Rabada (7/10) – Though he wasn’t as handy as the last match against Kolkata Knight Riders, the South African pacer looked dangerous with the ball every now and then. The only downside was that he couldn’t scalp off any of the hard hitters in his four-over spell today. To exacerbate that, he got hit for a boundary and a six in the last two balls of the first innings, which somehow gave Punjab a fighting chance.
Sandip Lamichhane (8/10) – The spinner continued his scintillating form picking up two wickets and providing important breaks whenever Punjab looked to build an innings. His first prey, Sam Curran, was an extremely important one as the southpaw was looking to take Punjab beyond doubt in the powerplay overs while his second wicket, Sarfraz Khan, was the reason Punjab’s momentum was broken and the team was eventually restricted to 170.
Chris Morris (6/10) – The grand old man of Delhi got the job done with the ball in his hands, taking three wickets and conceding 30 runs in four overs. While Delhi had a decent bowling display overall, Morris stole the show by taking all the important wickets - KL Rahul, David Miller, and Ravichandran Ashwin. His reckless running between the wickets only hinted at how nervous he was in the final stages,
Avesh Khan (5/10) – He was given the early jitters by Sam Curran, who smashed him for three boundaries in the third over itself. And though he was handed the ball on the 15th over again, where he did really well, he ended up conceding 30 runs in three overs. However, he did make a contribution by taking Murugan Ashwin’s catch despite almost clashing with Rishabh Pant in the process.
