IPL 2018 | Umesh Yadav : I am bowling whatever I was thinking and it has been going well till now
Umesh Yadav, who was the chief architect in setting up the win for RCB, stated that he was bowling according to his instincts and that has been going well till now. He also revealed that he and Tim Southee have lots of discussion on being more effective with the new ball and also in the death overs.
Umesh Yadav was the star of the match with the ball, picking up wickets at crucial junctures to help RCB get a massive win by a margin of 10 wickets over KXIP. This win also ensured that the hopes of RCB reaching the knockouts are still alive. Yadav picked up the wickets of KL Rahul and Chris Gayle, who have scored most runs for KXIP this season and ensured KXIP were under pressure from the start. Later, he picked the wicket of Andrew Tye and returned with the figures of 3 for 23 in his quota of 4 overs.
Yadav was adjudged the Man-of-the-Match for his breathtaking effort and interestingly, this was his second Man-of-the-Match against KXIP this season and coincidently, had the exact same figures 4-0-23-3 in the first match as well. After the performance, Yadav stated that he has been backing his instincts and that has paid till now. In the tournament where bowlers have relied on slower bowls, Yadav revealed that he had confidence in his pace and was looking to make full use of that.
"I am bowling whatever I was thinking and it has been going well till now. Hoping to carry this form forward," he said at the post-match presentation ceremony as quoted by India Today.
"I was backing myself to bowl whatever I have, pace with good line and length to cramp the batsman. I feel that if I don't do that, I'm lacking in confidence."
Yadav and Southee have been doing well for RCB with the new ball. Against KXIP, they were effective as they together picked up 3 wickets and gave away just 42 runs. Yadav revealed that they both have lots of discussion about ways to use the new ball and also have discussions about death overs.
"We just keep discussing how to use the new ball well (on his partnership with Southee) because if we can take early wickets, it will ease the pressure off the other bowlers. We also chat a lot about the death overs," the Vidarbha pacer said.
Yadav took the wicket of Chris Gayle and KL Rahul in the fourth over, which put KXIP on the back-foot. KXIP could never recover from the blow and lost wickets regularly. In reply, RCB hardly broke a sweat as Virat Kohli scored 48 not out and Parthiv Patel scored 40 not out to take RCB to victory.
