Amelia Kerr breaks world record of highest individual score with unbeaten 232
At 17 years of age New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr became the youngest cricketer in history to score a double hundred as she blasted her way to 232 which is incidentally the highest individual score in women’s ODIs. In the process, New Zealand posted a score of 440/3 - their third consecutive 400+ score.
Women’s cricket has started getting more recognition since the 2017 ODI World Cup where India and England played out a brilliant final. Even though it is gaining popularity, the innings from little known Amelia Kerr will definitely help women’s cricket gain even more traction.
Kerr reached her double-century off 134 deliveries with a four in the 46th over. She was on 217 when the final over of New Zealand's innings began. And she struck two boundaries of the fourth and fifth delivery and a six off the final to etched her name in cricket history books. In her innings of 232* she hit 31 boundaries and 2 sixes
But that wasn’t the only numbers that grabbed the headlines. For the third straight time, New Zealand women went past the 400-run mark and finished on 440/3 as Leigh Kasperek scored her maiden ODI hundred - 113 of 105. New Zealand, who posted a world record for when they scored 490/4 in the first one-day international, now head to England for a triangular Twenty20 series with the hosts and South Africa.
