Mumbai Cricket Association officials will hold a meeting with the under-performing local team players who've failed to register a single win in their Ranji Trophy campaign. Mumbai need to win both their last two games against Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh to stay in contention for a quarter-final spot.

The Mumbai cricket team has always been feared in the domestic cricket circuit after having produced some of the biggest names in the sport in recent times. Apart from legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Vinod Kambli, Zaheer Khan, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Sunil Gavaskar, the city of Mumbai has also been home to the likes of Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane and young cricketers like Shreyas Iyer and Shardul Thakur.

However, its been a below-par season for the most successful team in Ranji history so far as they find themselves placed in the 14th spot in combined Groups A and B standings of the ongoing Ranji Trophy. A report in today’s Indian Express revealed that top officials from the Mumbai Cricket Association are expected to call individual players and team management post the Ranji Trophy season and discuss the team’s below-par performance in the tournament.

“There will be one-on-one discussion with players and we will ask them about the difficulties that they faced during the season.

“It’s like if you don’t tell the doctor where the pain is then it is not able for him to give a remedy”, an MCA insider, who was present at the joint meeting of Cricket Improvement Committee and the Ad-Hoc Committee held at the MCA office in South Mumbai told Indian Express reporters.

Another official said the discussions are expected to take place in the second week of January.

The 41-time champions require to win their last two matches against Vidarbha (in Nagpur beginning December 30) and Chhattisgarh (in Mumbai beginning January 7) to remain in contention for a quarter-final spot. Mumbai have so far played 6 games but failed to register a single win, as they managed draws on five occasions after losing the opening game to Gujarat.
