VIDEO | Shimron Hetmyer shows his frustration on umpire despite DRS going in his favour
It is always disturbing to get penalised for someone else’s mistake and when it happens during a competitive event, it is even more painful for the person. Something similar happened today as Shimron Hetmyer wasn't awarded his four runs despite the third umpire overturning the LBW call on DRS.
Batting first against the Windies, Bangladesh had mustered 211 runs in the first half of the game with Liton Das top-scoring with 60 runs off 34 balls. The Windies came out to chase down a mammoth target of 212 which was always going to be a tough ask for them. They were 73/3 at the end of the seventh over, pretty much in control of the chase, when something disturbing took place for the visitors.
In the 8th over, Mehidy Hasan bowled a quicker delivery on the stumps to which Shimron Hetmyer was late to react as he got an inside edge which first struck on his pads. The ball hadn't lost the momentum though as it went on to reach the fine leg boundary. But, Hasan and the Bangladeshi players went up for an LBW appeal and the umpire raised his finger instantly signing the end of Hetmyer's innings.
Hetmyer, however, was surprised by that as he knew that the ball went off the inside edge and he quickly challenged the on-field decision. The replays showed clear deflection off the bat and the call was reversed in Hetmyer’s favour.
Despite the decision from the TV umpire went in favour of him, the West Indian batsman was still unhappy as he was not allowed to get a boundary even the ball had crossed the ropes. That’s what the rule is and it was a dot ball which frustrated the left-hander who had got a bat on that and deserved four runs in his favour.
