WATCH | Mukund’s brilliant fielding sends Upul Tharanga back to the hut
India posted a huge total of 600 runs in the first innings of the first Test against Sri Lanka after the Indian batsman showed their prowess. In response, Lankan batsman Upul Tharanga tried to keep the scorecard ticking but Abhinav Mukund and Wriddhiman Saha’s terrific effort sent him packing.
Nuwan Pradeep’s performance was the only positive for the Sri Lankan team as the 30-year-old took six wickets and helped his team wrap up the Indian innings. But on the whole, the home side's bowling was not up to the mark. After that, their batting department also failed to put up a challenge. Though Upul Tharanga tried his best to add some much-needed runs on the board for the hosts, the 32-year-old scored 64 runs before being the victim of some fabulous Indian fielding.
The incident took place in the 34th over of the Lankan’s innings when Ravichandran Ashwin delivered a ball to Tharanga, who came down the track and drove it towards silly point. However, in some fraction of seconds, fans saw a brilliant piece of work from Abhinav Mukund and Wriddhiman Saha as the former threw the ball back to Saha. Though Tharanga did manage to make his ground with the help of a dive, his bat was caught in mid-air as his hand touched the ground. Just then, Saha managed to dislodge the bails as soon as he collected the ball and with that, Tharanga's innings came to an end.
