Mohammed Amir bowled two consecutive stunning deliveries in the first ODI of Pakistan's Australia tour today to dismiss David Warner and Steve Smith. Amir's brilliance, however, was overshadowed by Pakistan's tryst with reviews as they made yet another terrible review for a caught-behind.

After being whitewashed in the Test series against Australia, Pakistan started the one-day series on a brilliant note.

In the fifth over of the Australian innings, Warner tried to hit Amir over the mid-wicket boundary with an expansive flick. But the ball nipped away just a fraction and zipped past the closing face of the bat to hit the stumps. As much as it was a brilliant delivery, Warner’s eagerness to hit the ball without watching it properly seemed to have been his undoing.

Amir then had skipper Steve Smith with a well-planned off-side field. He kept the ball full and shaped it away from outside the off stump. Lured by the away-going delivery, Smith tried to guide the ball to the third man region, but it took the outside edge of the bat, and it was a simple catch for wicketkeeper Mohammed Rizwan.

Although they were reduced to 13-2, wicketkeeper Mathew Wade paired with his Victoria teammate Glenn Maxwell to take Australia to 268 for 9 in 50 overs.

In the fag end of the Australian innings, a review appeal by skipper Azhar Ali made for a funny few minutes. During the 48th over, which was bowled by Hasan Ali, Australian tail-ender batsman Billy Stanlake got his bat down hard to dig out a fullish delivery, which was angled across him. Although it was clear that the ball was far away from the bat, Pakistan opted for a review taking everyone by surprise.

TV umpire Chris Gaffaney promptly turned it down, but by then the damage was done!
