CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ROUND OF 16

Woweee, that was some end?? Plus that Jose Mourinho rant (video below) is what dreams are made off. But that aside, the football was lovely, we had plenty of goals and this is only the first half of the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16. A lot more next week, but for now, we have the, hush-hush, Europa League and it should be fun.

Till then, I bid you adieu, goodnight and till next time.

20 Feb, 04:01

MANAGER TALK: JOSE MOURINHO

20 Feb, 03:47

PLAYER TALK: HUGO LLORIS

Hugo Lloris says: “I want to stay positive, especially after the last 20 minutes. Obviously if we started the game in the same way, the score would be different. But there is a second leg, we still have a chance. We are still alive. We were a bit more proactive with the ball. But we have to give a lot of credit to Leipzig, they press very high and are a very good team.

"We have to stay positive, not give up, not try to find excuses, and fight to the end. We are not really happy, but we have to deal with that. Let’s hope we can create another story.”

32 YEARS OLD

20 Feb, 03:28

ATALANTA 4-1 VALENCIA (FT)

GAME, SET AND MATCH, ATALANTA!! This was majestic to watch. Football at it's very best and we got goals, we got football, we got magnificent goals. Atalanta win their first ever knockout stage but there is hope for Valencia as they walk into the second leg with an away goal. But four goals for Atalanta and the La Liga side have a mountain to climb. It has been done before so hope is on their side.

20 Feb, 03:26

TOTTENHAM 0-1 RB LEIPZIG (FT)

GAME, SET AND MATCH, RB LEIPZIG!! Their first ever knockout stage game and Leipzig walks off with a win and Ethan Ampadu deserves that Man of the Match. He might get it but so might Konrad Laimer, Timo Werner, Marcel Sabitzer and even Peter Gulacsi. All four, hell all fourteen Leipzig men were brilliant and Spurs never looked in it. From the very minute go, they looked overwhelmed and did try something but never looked like it might happen!

20 Feb, 03:23

STILL DOESN'T LOOK HAPPY.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ROUND OF 16

FIVE MINUTES OF ADDED TIME IN LONDON and FOUR MINUTES OF ADDED TIME IN MILAN.

20 Feb, 03:18

TOTTENHAM 0-1 RB LEIPZIG

Weird tactic that Spurs have running for them as they fire crosses in against Leipzig's rather tall backline despite Lucas Moura being their center-forward. If it was Harry Kane, Fernando Llorente or even Peter Crouch if Jose got his wish, then understandable. But Moura? No taller than 5 foot 8, Lucas Moura? Weird indeed.

20 Feb, 03:16

TOTTENHAM 0-1 RB LEIPZIG

It looked for a moment that Leipzig were asking for trouble by sitting deep and letting Spurs have the ball but then they charge forward. That's the way forward, not sitting back and defending as Valencia have learnt in the other game. A little too late, much like Tottenham and with three minutes of normal time left, we have a game on our hands.

20 Feb, 03:14

ATALANTA 4-1 VALENCIA

It's not kamikaze football but it's brual offensive football. Even Manchester City struggled to hold Atalanta before they eventually brushed them aside and Valencia have had a tough time. That has been helped by the fact that their boss opted to play a rather low defensive line, giving the Serie A side the time of their lives with the ball.

20 Feb, 03:13

PAPU GOMEZ IS ALSO MY HERO BUT OFF HE WALKS!!

20 Feb, 03:12

VALENCIA ARE PUSHING FOR IT. WE COULD GET MORE GOALS!!

20 Feb, 03:12

TOTTENHAM 0-1 RB LEIPZIG

A lot of hectic nonsense in the midfield and that will mean Leipzig will miss Laimer's presence. He's looked like their biggest hectic nonsense creator and as both teams realise just how important the next 8 minutes are, they push for more nonsense in midfield.

20 Feb, 03:10

TOTTENHAM 0-1 RB LEIPZIG

Tottenham are not getting their way and it's magnificent to watch. Because RB Leipzig are doing things Spurs simply haven't come close to doing. That is anyone who's name is not Giovani Lo Celso with the Argentine the lone good player for Tottenham. Konrad Laimer is down again and it looks like a massive blow!!

20 Feb, 03:08

AHHH, THAT WAS NICE TO WATCH. ILICIC IS MY NEW HERO

20 Feb, 03:06

MAJESTIC TIMO

20 Feb, 03:06

C'EST LA VIE

20 Feb, 03:05

THAT'S OFFENSIVE, THAT'S AN OFFENSIVE CHANGE!! WE GET MORE GOALS!!

20 Feb, 03:03

TOTTENHAM 0-1 RB LEIPZIG

20 Feb, 03:02

TOTTENHAM 0-1 RB LEIPZIG

CHANCE AND GULACI HAS TIPPED IT AWAY!!! He may be 30 plus. This may be done and dusted but goodness me, Tottenham are still in it!! Giovani lo Celso with a fantastically taken free-kick and Peter Gulaci stretches out his hand and palms away the dead ball. Marvellous from both men.

20 Feb, 03:01

THAT WAS 33 MINUTES AGO. HE'S ONLY BECOME BETTER SINCE

20 Feb, 03:00

ATALANTA 4-1 VALENCIA

CHANCE AND SAVE!! CHANCE AND SAVE AGAIN!! Oh what is happening?? Milan and the San Siro is remarkable but this game is even better!!! Fantastic pass in for Maxi Gomez but his tap in is blocked with a late tackle, before the rebound is fired in by Denis Cheryshev straight at Gollini who makes a great save!!

20 Feb, 02:59

TOTTENHAM 0-1 RB LEIPZIG

20 Feb, 02:59

TOTTENHAM 0-1 RB LEIPZIG

Apologies for not doing enough over the last eight odd minutes but Milan has been utterly mesmerizing and difficult to take our eyes away. Especially with Tottenham sitting back and RB Leipzig doing everything they can to spoil Mourinho's party. Hell, Mini Mou might have one up but saying things like that is jinxing it.

20 Feb, 02:57

TOTTENHAM 0-1 RB LEIPZIG

20 Feb, 02:57

ATALANTA 4-1 VALENCIA

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!

AND DENIS CHERYSHEV HAS FIRED IN THE AWAY GOAL!! Lack of discipline at the back from Atalanta and the Russian finds himself in acres of space against a clueless defense. He then turns into prime Cheryshev and fires home an off balanced shot into the bottom corner. We might have something here.

20 Feb, 02:56

ATALANTA 4-0 VALENCIA

20 Feb, 02:56

ATALANTA 4-0 VALENCIA

20 Feb, 02:54

ATALANTA 4-0 VALENCIA

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLL!!

IT SHOULD BE FOUR. IT NEEDS TO BE FOUR. IT IS FOUR!! Valencia pushed forward to score, they forget to defend and out surge Atalanta with calm, with ease and with utter class for the fourth goal of the night and San Siro is having a ball. No issues with the finish for Hateboer.

20 Feb, 02:51

ATALANTA 3-0 VALENCIA

20 Feb, 02:48

ATALANTA 3-0 VALENCIA

GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLL!!

TALK ABOUT A HIT. THAT WAS SOME HIT. TAKE A BOW SON, TAKE A BOW. Papu Gomez smiles, Josip Ilicic smiles and Atalanta smile because they're ahead now and it's 3-0 at the San Siro. Valencia have a job and a half to do, but this is going to sting. Freuler with the goal and Valencia could do nothing but stop and stare.

20 Feb, 02:47

TOTTENHAM 0-1 RB LEIPZIG

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLL!!

TIMO WERNER WAS NEVER GOING TO MISS, WAS HE? Goal number 26 for the German and this is someone who isn't going to be at RB Leipzig for too long now!! Wonderful penalty and the Bundesliga men have deserved it!!

20 Feb, 02:45

TOTTENHAM 0-0 RB LEIPZIG

PENALTY FOR RB LEIPZIG!!

Ben Davies has taken out Konrad Laimer for a nice dinner but then tackles him to the ground mid meal and gives the ref no choice but to point to the spot. Laimer looks truly hurt and Timo Werner steps up, as Davies is handed a yellow card.

20 Feb, 02:42

ATALANTA 2-0 VALENCIA

Nearly a third for the hosts and they've taken to the San Siro. It's a wonderful stadium as Papu Gomez is played into miles of space on the left, and his cross flicks off a defender's foot and loops across goal, dipping just outside with a host of Atalanta men waiting for the chance to leather that into the net.

20 Feb, 02:40

TOTTENHAM 0-0 RB LEIPZIG

Tottenham are in this game as they launch their first meaningful attack of the night and Serge Aurier swings in a majestic low cross. Moura extends a leg, forces Gulacsi into a save before Bergwijn bundles it well wide over the goal-line. Not bad, at all London side, that is not bad. Maybe a few more and you might call yourself a football team!!

20 Feb, 02:35

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ROUND OF 16

PEEEEEEEEEEEP!! WE'RE OFF AGAIN AT LONDON AND MILAN!!

Fun second half we have on our hands and we needs goals!! Inject that into our hands, legs, brains and even faces!! No sign of any subs as of yet from any of the four sides.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ROUND OF 16

HALF-TIME AND WE HAVE A FEW GAMES ON OUR HAND!!

London has boren witness to what should be a mauling and yet they walk into the game level while Milan has been anything but. It's been tedious and borderline average there but yet we walk in with two goals to the good.

20 Feb, 02:17

TOTTENHAM 0-0 RB LEIPZIG

Meanwhile, in London, Timo Werner wins another corner and for bloody hell, it's utterly useless yet again!! Tim Sherwood may complain about why Jurgen Klopp has throw in coaches but the world needs corner coaches. It's been a masterclass in how not to fire a corner, because yet again it is not worthy of my time or yours.

20 Feb, 02:14

ATALANTA 2-0 VALENCIA

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!

WHO ELSE BUT JOSIP ILICIC? THE MAN'S ON FIRE AND YOU CAN SEE THE SMOKE!! Fantastic run from the kid and then he unleashes with all his might towards goal. Keeper gets a hand to it but there was no stopping that and he might need a change of hand there. Brilliant from the Atalanta superstar!!

20 Feb, 02:10

TOTTENHAM 0-0 RB LEIPZIG

CHANCE FOR LEIPZIG AND IT'S SAVED!! Wonderful save by Lloris with him the only reason why they're in the game but RB Leipzig need to be atleast three goals ahead here. They're not been shot shy with eight on goal and four on target but all four have been more than half chances. They've been terrible with their finishing and that proved it.

20 Feb, 02:08

ATALANTA 1-0 VALENCIA

Time has passed but the story is still the same. Atalanta have now joined the shot shy club with Valencia and Tottenham in the same bracket. For your information, Valencia have zero shots on goal or target with Spurs doing slightly better with 2 to 1 on target. Things need to change if Valencia want something but that hasn't looked like it might happen.

20 Feb, 02:04

TOTTENHAM 0-0 RB LEIPZIG

As the camera pans about the stadium, a few fans look worried. Who can blame them because Spurs are struggling to keep hold of possession with their moves consisting of anything more than two/three/four passes coming once in a blue moon. That might change, but right now, their best chance has flown over the bar and out of the stadium

20 Feb, 02:07

ATALANTA 1-0 VALENCIA

Twenty eight minutes into this game and Valencia are dominating the ball which does see Atalanta play on the break, something they are rather good at. However, chances have been at a premium for the former with the latter getting a few pops on goal. Needs to change going forward.

20 Feb, 01:54

TOTTENHAM 0-0 RB LEIPZIG

Spurs may be getting thrashed, mauled and scratched out here but they're far from doing nothing with Lucas Moura doing well to cause a few problems. But right now, it's all RB Leipzig and Tottenham are like West Ham. Dug in deep and struggling to hold onto anything as the tornado flies past, destroying everything in it's path. Yet to score though, so that's a plus.

20 Feb, 01:52

ATALANTA 1-0 VALENCIA

20 Feb, 01:49

ATALANTA 1-0 VALENCIA

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!

ATALANTA ARE AHEAD AND THAT GOAL LOOKED LIKE IT WAS COMING!!! Fantastic move from the hosts after a deflected Papu Gomez cross sees Hans Hateboer gets in front of Jose Gaya to prod in from four yards! Not bad from Atalanta and didn't I tell you to expect goals?

20 Feb, 01:47

TOTTENHAM 0-0 RB LEIPZIG

60/40 in the opening 15 minutes in favour of RB Leipzig and that sums things so far rather nicely for me. Leipzig have been the better side so far but Spurs are not too far behind although this game should, in reality, be well away from the hosts.

20 Feb, 01:44

ATALANTA 0-0 VALENCIA

Magnificent miss from Pasalic and Josip Ilicic looks angry. Nobody blames the man because that was a downright fantastic pass and it sliced Valencia’s defence open for the former Chelsea man. But Pasalic fires it and gives Domenech enough time to anticipates push it over over the bar! Not a good defensive start, but there's some hope.

20 Feb, 01:41

TOTTENHAM 0-0 RB LEIPZIG

Tottenham are struggling. BUT THERE'S BERGWIJN AND GULACI MAKES A GREAT SAVE!! Brilliant stop from the Leipzig goalie but Bergwijn was never scoring from there. He tried and fired a good shot in with the rebound but the flag's raised and it's offside on the Dutch winger. Nice try though and this game has the making of a classic.

20 Feb, 01:39

ATALANTA 0-0 VALENCIA

Slow burner here, but that's saying something considering that the game has been on for only about five minutes. Yet, both sides have fired free-kicks from decent areas reasonably wide but it has the bearings of a rather nice game. Not the greatest in the world, but a rather nice one. Still, neither side dominating so far.

20 Feb, 01:35

TOTTENHAM 0-0 RB LEIPZIG

THAT'S THREE CHANCES ALREADY!! We're barely three minutes into this game and goodness me, Tottenham haven't been able to handle RB Leipzig. This is not what they expected with the German side firing wide, hitting Hugo Lloris and then crashing a cross against the post in the opening few minutes. Not a good start for Spurs.

20 Feb, 01:34

ATALANTA 0-0 VALENCIA

Slow and steady wins the race here with both sides finding their footing in the early minutes of this game but the same isn't happening in London. That's not the priority here, because for the first time in a loooong time the San Siro has Champions League football. And it deserves it.

20 Feb, 01:33

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ROUND OF 16

PEEEEEEEEEEEEP!! WE'RE OFF IN MILAN AND LONDON!!

Three good games takes place tonight and two have just started and almost instantly, Patrik Schick fires just wide of Hugo Lloris' goal. Tottenham were napping and the former Roma man scuffed his shot, and has already caused problems for them.

20 Feb, 01:30

HARSH ON THOSE AWAY VALENCIA FANS.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ROUND OF 16

THE STADIUMS ARE BUZZING. THE TEAMS STRIDE OUT. THIS IS IT.

This is the Round Of 16. This is the Champions League knockout stages. This is what the world wants to watch and we have two rather fantastic games to watch. Tottenham host Leipzig, Atalanta and the San Siro hosts Valencia. This should be fun

20 Feb, 01:11

MANAGER TALK: JOSE MOURINHO

Jose Mourinho says: “This is a half-match. Too many matches in the knockout stage of the Champions League are thought of emotionally as one match. But this is only a half-match. So we need to be very intelligent in our approach, knowing what we have and what we don’t have, and be positive with a good feeling. We are going to play against a team that normally play with five at the back, are very consistent and very fast.

"So I think a very difficult match. But we know what to do. Emotional control. It is not about fighting and running. We need to be clinical with our chances, but also knowing how to manage the game and the tempo. It is February, we are fighting for the top four, we are in the knockouts, and the last 16 of the FA Cup, so it is a big effort from the boys to be here. I think the crowd will be with them.”

20 Feb, 01:10

MANAGER TALK: JULIAN NAGLESMANN

Julian Naglesmann says: “It is the first time at this stage for Leipzig, so we are all excited. We are a young team, perhaps a bit nervous, but we will try to do our own style. It is a great stadium and it’s a pleasure to be here. It is the same for Tottenham and Leipzig, we have injured players. But I think Ethan Ampadu will do well.

"This is not a tactical battle between the managers, it is about the players, the performance of the guys. The emotional things are the more important, if you can deal with the pressure.”

20 Feb, 12:46

ATALANTA VS VALENCIA

LINEUPS ARE OUT AND MAXI GOMEZ STARTS!!

No real surprise there and neither are the rest of the team from Valencia. A solid back four of Jose Gaya, Eliaquim Mangala, Mouctar Diakhaby and Daniel Wass. Their midfield more or less stays the same with Dani Parejo, Ferran Torres and Carlos Soler playing alongside Geoffrey Kondogbia.

Atalanta also do not make too many changes, with Mario Pasalic, Josip Ilicic, Papu Gomez and Martin de Roon all starting. They are the home side and playing at the San Siro but while they're not household names, remember Atalanta have netted 63 goals this season. That's more than Juventus, free-flowing Lazio and even Antonio Conte's Inter Milan.

20 Feb, 12:41

TOTTENHAM VS RB LEIPZIG

LINEUPS ARE OUT AND TANGUY NDOMBELE HAS BEEN DROPPED!!

The Frenchman only makes the bench for the North Londoners with Jose Mourinho opting to play a front three of Dele Alli, Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn, a midfield of Giovani lo Celso, Gedson Fernandes and Harry Winks but doesn't change his back four.

Julian Naglesmann and RB Leipzig, on the other hand, keep more or less the same team as Timo Werner and Patrik Schick lead the line, Ethan Ampadu, Konrad Laimer and Marcel Sabitzer make the midfield with a back four of Nordi Mukiele, Marcel Halstenberg, Lucas Klosterman and Angelino.

As that rather cute Polar bear says, sup? And welcome back to the final two games from the first part of the first leg of the Champions League round of 16!! It's a firecracker of a fixture as Tottenham face RB Leipzig and Valencia face Atalanta at the San Siro and it's a firecracker!! Did I say that already? Well, it deserves a double mention, so there's that!

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ROUND OF 16

Well, that's day one of the round of 16 over with but we're far from done with the Champions League yet. Next up is day two and we have a few majestic games of football. Atalanta faces Valencia at the same time that Tottenham faces RB Leipzig.

But as if things were enough, Manchester City plays their Premier League game vs West Ham, so Live commentary on that as well. But for now, this is goodnight/morning, goodbye and until next time!!

19 Feb, 03:54

MANAGERS TALK: JURGEN KLOPP

Jurgen Klopp says: "It was not exactly what should happen but it happened. It was the fight we expected and the atmosphere we expected but I love so many parts of our game. It is only 1-0 down at half time and the second half we play out our stadium.

"We lacked in the final third. They defended with all they had - their defending in the box was incredible. When you are 1-0 down with a team like this who only want this kind of result - 0-0 would have been good for them.

"He [Sadio Mane] was targeted. It was clear. They wanted to make sure he got a yellow card. It is only half time but you need to be really strong as a referee in this atmosphere. Already in the first 30 minutes three of their players went to the ground I don't know what for. Nobody to blame. I am fine, 1-0 down at half time we have the longest half time break and we will use that."

19 Feb, 03:49

PLAYERS TALK: EMRE CAN

Emre Can says: "Really important. I think it was a big statement from the team, but we know it’s not the end, it’s just half-time. We’ll have a very difficult game in Paris, but we have to continue like that. We didn’t change that much [defensively], just everybody knew what he had to do. We didn’t change anything.

"We did it very well as a team and if we continue like that it will be very difficult to score against us. A big compliment to the team. Of course [Haaland] is a great footballer and scores a lot of goals, but he’s also a great guy. A little bit crazy I think, funny, and hopefully will continue like that.

"[To win the tie] I think we have to play like today. It was a good example of how we can play. We defended really well. Of course very difficult in Paris because they have world-class players, but I think we can do it. It would mean a lot to go through. Nobody expects it from us against Paris, but we have a good team and a young team and I hope we will do it in the second game.

19 Feb, 03:40

PLAYERS TALK: THOMAS MEUNIER

Thomas Meunier says: "It was really difficult, really intense. It was very demanding physically. Obviously, maybe we deserved the draw but Dortmund were very good. They played like a home team, they didn’t lose one game here at home this season and we saw today it is so difficult."

"We thought they had defensive problems, but we didn’t create many chances. We weren’t really sharp in the last 20m and we can see a little bit of fatigue. We’ve played nearly 15 games since the beginning of January and you saw it tonight. It was really quiet by our side."

"I think we just have to be focused. Take care of our rest. Just acting like professional football players, as good as we can, and we’ll see in the second leg. Pressure is there every day. That’s professional football and when we have such a team, we just have to prove every game that we are the best. Today it wasn’t really our best game but I have a lot of hope for the second game."

19 Feb, 03:46

PLAYERS TALK: VIRGIL VAN DIJK AND ANDY ROBERTSON

Virgil Van Dijk says: "We conceded the goal from the corner, first chance for them, not even a chance. Bit of luck. The message at half time was to keep playing. We had the ball most of the game but unfortunately could not create massive opportunities. We still have another 90 minutes to set it right.

"It is the way they play. It is a bit of the Spanish football as well and you have to adapt but we knew it and I feel we handled it pretty well."

Andy Robertson says: “They’ve celebrated as if they’ve won the tie after the game. We’ve got Premier League business to take care of, then we’ve got Anfield. We know our fans will be there, we will be there. It’s up to Atletico to be there.”
