Shiva Thapa and three other boxers enter semifinals of Czech boxing tournament
Indian boxing sensation Shiva Thapa has assured himself of winning at least a bronze medal at the ongoing Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem boxing tournament in the Czech Republic. Thapa entered the semifinals, while other three Indians were also given assurance of bronze medals after getting byes.
Asian silver-medalist Thapa (60Kg) won his bout against local favourite Erika Huleiv to enter the last four stage. It was a win-win day for the India as three other Indians were also confirmed their name for bronze medals in their category. Gaurav Bidhuri (56kg), Kavinder Bisht (52kg) and Amit
Sumit Sangwan (91Kg) and Manish Panwar (81Kg) reached the quarterfinals of the tournament. Sumit knocked Czech Republic’s Jiri Horky out and Manish registered a win over Belgium’s Yassine Aydir. Satish Kumar (+91kg), Manoj Kumar (69kg) and Ashish Kumar (64kg) made their place in the last-eight as they got byes in the opening round.
The World Championships will be organised in Hamburg, Germany from August 25 to September 2. Seven of the nine Indian boxers participating in the Czech boxing tournament have qualified for the prestigious event.
Vikas Krishan Yadav (75Kg) has also qualified for the World Championships and currently, he is in Pune for training.
