Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty made history by becoming the first Indian pair to win a doubles gold at the Badminton Asian Championships here on Sunday. The duo, who won the bronze medal at the 2022 World Championships, ended a 58-year wait by winning the continental championships.

India's men's doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty beat the world no.3 team of Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan in the quarter-finals of the Badminton Asia Championship on Friday. The Indian duo assured themselves a medal by beating the Indonesians 21-11, 21-12.

After a grueling European phase of the BWF tour, HS Prannoy has withdrawn from the Badminton Asia Championships 2022, which will begin on April 26. The World No. 23 competed in the Korea Open Super 500 last month, but was unable to put on a solid performance, losing in the first round.

Danish shuttler Mathias Boe, who won the men's doubles silver medal in London in 2012, is likely to take over as the doubles coach of the Indian team till the Asian Games 2022. The former world no.1 Boe had earlier trained Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty before the 2020 Olympics.
