Kidambi Srikanth had an amazing start to his BWF Indonesian Open campaign as he made his way to a straight-game win against Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto in the opening round. The eighth-seeded Indian registered a 21-14, 21-13 against his Japanese opponent on Wednesday.

But things were not so good for the other two Indian men - HS Prannoy and B Sai Praneeth - who were also competing in the first round. Praneeth suffered a 15-21, 21-13, 21-10 loss to Hong Kong’s Wong Wing Ki Vincent opponent while Prannoy suffered a 19-21, 21-18, 22-20 defeat at the hands of second-seeded Chinese ace Shi Yu Qi.

Meanwhile, PV Sindhu also made the second round with an 11-21, 21-15, 21-15 win against Japan’s Aya Ohori in the opening round. The fifth seed started off with a loss in the opening game but recovered well to defeat her Japanese opponent.

However, things ended on a bad note for Indian mixed doubles duo of Satwiksair Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponappa as they lost by a scoreline of 21-13, 21-11 against locals Tontowi Ahmad and Winny Kandow today.
