Indonesia Open | PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth get easy draw early on
The Indian contingent would be hoping for an encouraging start in the Indonesia Open with PV Sindhu hardly facing a strong opponent until the semis in the women’s singles. However, the men’s singles contenders have a trickier task ahead of them with numerous nuts to crack before they reach there.
With Saina Nehwal seemingly pulling out of the tournament at the last moment, Sindhu would be India’s sole torch bearer on the women’s singles category in the Super 1000 tournament. She would be opening her campaign against Japan’s Aya Ohori and if things go as expected, her toughest opponent would be Nozomi Okuhara although not before the semis.
While Srikanth has a relatively simple task in his hands early on as he would be up against Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto early on, he could face compatriot B Sai Praneeth in the quarter-finals and Chen Long or Shi Yu Qi in the semi-final. HS Prannoy would be considering himself unlucky as he would have to start his campaign against Yu Qi.
India would have two pairs competing in the men’s doubles event. While Swastiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty would be playing against Malaysia’s Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin, the other pair of Manu Attri and B. Sumeeth would be up against Chinese Taipei’s Liao Min Chun and Su Ching Heng. The women’s doubles pair of N Sikki Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa would take on Malaysia’s Vivian Hoo Yap Cheng Wen.
