Sudirman Cup | PV Sindhu, Ashwini Ponappa guide India to a 4-1 win over Indonesia
PV Sindhu and Ashwini Ponappa put up a dominating show against former champions Indonesia to secure a 4-1 win and stay in the hunt for a knockout berth in the Sudirman Cup mixed team badminton championship. India had suffered a 1-4 defeat at the hands of Denmark on the first day.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini produced a gritty performance against Tontowi Ahmad and Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja in the mixed doubles match for a 22-20, 17-21, 21-19 win in a contest that lasted 66 minutes. Kidambi Srikanth, who reached the Singapore Open final recently, made it 2-0 for India when he beat Jonatan Christie 21-15, 21 -16.
Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo defeated Satwiksairaj and Chirag Shetty 21-9, 21-17 in men's doubles to hand Indonesia their first win of the clash, but Sindhu saw off Fitriani Fitriani 21-9, 21-19 in women’s singles match hand India an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match rubber.
