Barcelo takes the fourth sprint with Leitao in behind.

A third place for Bossche while Thomas was out of the top five sees his lead in the standings grow to four.

Leitao takes the fifth sprint and has caught up to the leaders in the overall standings now.

The Portuguese is currently in a Bronze winning place, one behind Thomas and two behind Bossche.

Bossche realizes the growing pressure and has taken the lead now, followed closely by Thomas.

The Belgian now falls back into third again. Thomas leads again.

The duo and Aaron Gate are swapping leads at whim. We are now into the third sprint. The leading group of five has also caught up to the tale of the field and began lapping them to rack up the 20 points.

Leitao takes the third sprint, followed by Gate and Thomas. 

Bossche only takes fifth and his lead is now down to two points.

Back to the Men's Omnium now. The final race awaits -- a 25km marathon with elements of sprint.

The Points race is similar to the Scratch, except the distance is 25km and the sprint points are awarded every 10 laps. The leader at every 10-lap interval is handed five points, his successor three, two for the rider in third, and one for the rider in fourth.

For the final 10-lap sprint, the points awarded are doubled. Other than that, the lapping rules remain the same -- 20 points for each rider lapped and a deduction of 20 points every time another rider laps you.

Next up will be the tempo race, held over the same distance of 10km. However, the scoring system is entirely different -- a point is awarded to each rider than finishes a lap in the lead, from lap five onwards. If someone manages to break away, they have great amounts to gain -- every rider lapped is worth 20 points. But shall the endurance fail, it can cost big too -- every time a rider is lapped, he loses 20 points.

We begin with the omnium event today, the second last of the five track cycing formats to get underway at Paris 2024. The omnium is a four-race event, each of which have a different format and scoring system. The rider with the most points overall after the fourth race is declared the winner.

The first of the lot is the scratch race, an endurace 40-lap race with a distance of 10km. Whoever finishes first is awarded the maximum number of 40 points, followed by 38 for second, 36 for third and so on. 

Two sets of riders will be in action simultaneously -- one at the fence and the other by the blue band.
