PKL 2019 | Everyone had doubts about our raiding unit, says Fazel Atrachali
Fazel Atrachali has said that despite people doubting their raiding unit, they were able to reach the playoffs as opposed to the sides which had the good raiders in the team. Fazel became the third player to reach the 300 tackle-point milestone in Pro Kabaddi and was delighted about it.
U Mumba showcased some strong individual performances to win their last night’s match against Haryana Steelers by a six-point margin. They were able to save an all-out in the first half, then they were also able to recover from the all-out in the second half. Skipper Fazel Atrachali was in phenomenal form as he completed his High Five in the first half itself and finished the match with a total of eight tackle points in 11 attempts. He also went past 300 tackle points milestone in PKL and become the first foreign defender to do so.
“I did not know that. Thank you. It’s a great feeling to be able to reach that milestone. I have had the privilege to play with and against some of the best kabaddi players in history. Players from around the world dream of playing in vivo Pro Kabaddi and to live it is a great feeling. But the most important thing is the team’s qualifications to the playoffs. Everyone had doubts about our raiding unit, but some of the league's best won’t be playing in the playoffs but we will be. So that is more important than individual records,” Fazel Atrachali said during the press conference.
Another brilliant performance came from the raiding unit where Dong Geon Lee scored nine raid points and debutant Ajinkya Kapre managed to get nine raid and one tackle point. Kapre scored those points in 16 raid attempts and was serving as the lead raider in the match.
“There’s pressure in every game, but the coach and captain were very supportive. They gave me the license to express myself and told me not worry about the match situation and just play to my strengths and do as I please during raids,” Kapre said.
