Tamil Thalaivas skipper Ajay Thakur is of the belief that the match on Monday was a close contest because of their hardworking defence. The Tamil Thalaivas defence scored more points than their raiding unit as the Chennai-based team lost to Patna Pirates 23-24 in their third game.

In the previous matches, Tamil Thalaivas had showcased an all-round performance while in their game on Monday, the raiding department felt to be lacking something as they managed to score only nine points. Rahul Chaudhari scored five points whereas Ajay Thakur only managed to score three points. Once they both got out, their team had difficulty in reviving them. Their support raider Shabeer Bappu failed to score even a single point and the team failed to win a game.

Their defensive unit was on par with the opposition as they scored 10 points as compared to 13 points scored by Patna Pirates. Manjeet Chhilar scored four tackle points in six tackle attempts in the defence. They weren't able to stop the substitute Monu and gave away points in the crucial moments of the match.

“The defence played well today. There was a point when they were down to just two players, but they got a Super Tackle. From then on, they took the advantage. We came under pressure and rushed their raiders after that because they were in a lead. But our defence played very well overall and that’s why it was such a close match,” Tamil Thalaivas skipper Ajay Thakur said in the post-match press conference.
