Reports | Jose Mourinho set to stay at Roma despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain
According to Fabrizio Romano, Jose Mourinho is content and happy to stay at Roma for the foreseeable future despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain to appoint him as their next manager. Mauricio Pochettino’s future at the club is uncertain and Mourinho is one of the top candidates to replace him.
Jose Mourinho was sacked by Tottenham just days before the EFL Cup final against Manchester City in April 2020 and the Portuguese manager agreed to take charge of Roma ahead of the 2021-22 season. Since then, the duo have done well as Mourinho led the Italian team to a successful season. That includes a sixth place finish in the Serie A and qualification into the Europa League. Not only that, Roma won their first major European title in more than 60 years after beating Feyenoord in the Europa Conference League final.
That has since seen several rumours emerge that the Roma coach was one of the favourites, alongside Zinedine Zidane, to take the hot seat at the Parc des Princes after an underwhelming campaign in which the French giants failed to claim European glory. But according to Fabrizio Romano, the iconic manager is set to stay at the Italian club despite interest from the French club. Mourinho had earlier indicated his delight at securing a European cup with Roma and asserted that his future would be with the Italians.
It is understood that Roma are already preparing to back the former Chelsea manager on transfer strategies and have efficiently worked towards procuring primary targets as they look to wrap up deals for Mile Svilar and Nemanja Matic. The Roma manager hasn’t been presented with an offer from PSG although it is understood that the Portuguese manager would be unwilling to make the move to the French capital as he is currently happy with his current role at the Serie A side.
José Mourinho wants to continue his project with AS Roma despite PSG links. He’s focused on AS Roma, so José’s not planning to change as of today. 🇵🇹 #Mourinho
