I disagree with him but Solskjaer has to decide the team, asserts Nemanja Matic
Nemanja Matic has claimed that Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be blamed if the club cannot compete for the title this season. The Red Devils started their season well with a win over Chelsea, but have since gone on a three game winless run including a loss to Crystal Palace.
With the season’s first international break off and running, Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a lot of work to do. The Red Devils may have started the season with a win over Big Six rivals Chelsea but their downfall since then has been well documented. They’ve managed to accrue just two points from their last three games- a winless run that includes a loss against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.
But to make things even worse for the Norwegian, out of favour midfielder Nemanja Matic believes that Solskjaer will be the man held responsible if they cannot compete for the title. In a very frank interview with the Times, the 31-year-old had a lot to say, including the fact that the Red Devils’ boss was wrong to drop him.
“I have been in football for a long time, I have played almost all the games for all the clubs in the last 10 years. In order for me to play, one had to sit on the bench and accept that fact, and so do I now. The coach must opt for the team that will fight for the title, and if he does not win, he bears the responsibility,” said Matic to the Times.
“In the first two or three games he determined the team without me. I work as hard as I can, we respect the decision, it is mine to show him that he was wrong and to bring me back to where I belong. There is no problem. I told him I disagreed with him, but that he had to decide the team,” concluded the Serbian.
