Men’s Hundred | Glenn Phillips' heroics go awry as Southern Brave secure playoff spot in rain interrupted clash
The key clash between Southern Brave and Welsh Fire was washed out by rain. Batting first, Welsh Fire posted 181/5, courtesy of Glenn Phillips' blistering 48 off 19 balls and Luke Wells' half-century whereas Southern Brave's chase was halted early and the match was ultimately abandoned.
In reply, the Southern Braves had a rocky start losing opener Alex Davies on just the second delivery. Following this early setback, James Vince and Leus du Plooy steadied the ship, taking the score to 21/1 in 15 deliveries. However, Vince's promising form was cut short when Matt Henry dismissed him on the 16th ball With Vince’s departure, a sudden downpour sent the groundsmen scurry into the field to swiftly cover the pitches as the players trudged back to the hut. As the torrential rain persisted in Southampton, the match was abandoned after a few minutes wait. Eventually, the Brave's advanced to the playoffs, finishing with eleven points and a superior net run rate. Although they were level on points with the Superchargers, their net run rate secured their place. They will now compete in the eliminator on Saturday.
