Big Bash League | Chris Green signs record six-year deal with Sydney Thunder
Australian spinner Chris Green has signed a six-year deal, a record in the Big Bash League, with Sydney Thunder. The off-spinner expressed his joy after he signed the deal and shared his excitement of continuing his journey with the Sydney Thunder franchise which has had his back for long now.
Off-spinner Chris Green has created history in the Big Bash League (BBL) by signing a six-year deal with the Sydney Thunder, the longest ever in BBL history. His deal with the Thunder beat Chirs Lynn's five-year deal with Brisbane Heat to take up the first position.
Green expressed his joy over the deal as he shared his excitement to play for the franchise which backed him in his early days. Green joined the Thunder back in 2014, in the fourth season of the tournament, and has been loyal to the side ever since.
"(The) Thunder was the first team that backed me when I was playing grade cricket, so to lock in my future with the club is really exciting," Green told Cricbuzz on Sunday (November 17). "It's not often you have security, so for me to get that with a club that I love, I'm really excited and very grateful for this opportunity to continue to represent Thunder into the future."
Green, over the years, has turned into a seasoned T20 bowler, playing in the leagues around the world. The off-spinner, who can be a handy batsman down the order, has showcased his powerplay bowling prowess not only in the BBL but also in the CPL, Global T20 Canada, T10 League and PSL. He went on to share that he has been informed by the selectors that his performance around the world is being monitored and that he has a real chance of earning his first call-up in the lead up to the T20 World Cup.
"They told me if there wasn't a World Cup coming up they'd probably advise me differently, to come back and push my case in state cricket," he said. "It was really great to get that feedback from the Australian selectors, and reassurance they are watching while I'm abroad and that they are taking notice of these tournaments."
