IPL 2019 | The trophy is never too far, says Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer has stated that the team believes the Indian Premier League trophy is never too far and has added that they believe they can win their first ever cup this season. The Ricky Ponting-coached side is on a roll with three back-to-back wins, especially after a slow start.
Delhi Capitals comprehensively defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in Sunday’s match as they bowled their opposition out for just 118, winning the match by a margin of 39 runs. DC had just won two out of their first five games,
“We are believing so and it's never too far (on winning the IPL),” expressed Shreyas Iyer, at the post match presentation ceremony, reported PTI.
The Capitals had a disappointing start in Hyderabad yesterday as both their openers Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan were dismissed cheaply, having put to bat by SRH. Colin Munro, who was playing his first match of the season, ensured that runs were flowing as he played a knock of 40 in 24 balls, but was dismissed in the eighth over. DC
“It started to slow down. Me and Pant had decided so that one of us will take the charge. We got a little cameo from Keemo and Axar and helped us get to that total,” explained Iyer.
Kagiso Rabada has been the biggest positive for DC this season as he has scalped 17 wickets in eight matches and also holds the purple cap at the moment. The South African quick scalped four wickets in yesterday’s match too and along with Man of the match Paul and Chris Morris, who had three scalps each, dismissed the SRH for 118 in the 19th over itself. He is the highest wicket-taker in the tournament with Imran Tahir being at the second position.
“We have played together. It is good to be around each other. It is easy to have that camaraderie,” said the 24-year-old.
DC
“It is a positive thing to carry around. We are positive as well when we chase. We will be backing our abilities,” he signed off.
DC will next take on Mumbai Indians on April 18 at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi.
