Salgaocar sign Eder Monteiro to fix leaky defence
Desperately in need of strengthening at the back, Salgaocar FC have signed Brazilian center back Eder Monteiro from Cyprus-based club Nea Salamis Famagusta FC.
The 32-year-old was part of the Chennaiyin FC squad in the Indian Super League this season, which lifted the title, although he made just two appearances on the pitch. He will join the Goan side as their fourth foreigner – after Darryl Duffy, Martin Scott and Calvin Mbarga - according to Goal.com.
Salgaocar manager Malky Thomson had earlier stated the need for defensive reinforcement in the squad. The Greens headed into the season with a lot of exceptions, having made some quality signings in the summer. However, plagued by injuries, Salgaocar have lost both their matches so far against Bengaluru FC and defending champions Mohun Bagan.
More worryingly for Malky Thomson, his team has conceded six goals in their two games so far. Salgaocar's central defensive pairing of Augustin Fernandes and Gurjinder Kumar have looked vulnerable, and Eder's arrival will provide a lot of solidity to the back four.
