Domestic tournaments are often known to unearth talents that can rule the cricket world by playing for their nation. Similarly, Suryansh Shedge of Mumbai has been one of the names that showed a lot of promise this season with his brutal hitting against Baroda stealing the spotlight.

Vidarbha stockpiled a monumental 221-run total on the back of Atharva Taide’s half-century in the first innings of the third quarter-final of the ongoing SMAT 2024/25. Chasing a hefty total, Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane, the Mumbai openers gave a solid start with an 83-run stand. However, Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav’s wicket following Shaw’s dismissal turned the tide in Vidarbha’s favour halfway through the innings. Irrespective of the pressure, Shivam Dube and Rahane set up for the chase with young Suryansh Shedge hitting the final nail in the coffin.

Having already hit a four and a six in the 17th over, Shedge lunged forward and clobbered a fuller, floated delivery from Mahale over cow corner for a six. The next delivery was widish but in the slot and the right-hander enforced a similar punishment. The 21-year-old all-rounder fetched the widish ball and smoked over deep mid-wicket for yet another to curtail down the equation. Eventually, the pair ensured Mumbai go past the finishing line and enter the semi-finals with Shedge hitting a gigantic six and leaving the Twitterverse in praise.
