Litton Das steps up to lead Bangladesh in T20I clash against West Indies

Bangladesh's top-order batter Litton Das has been appointed captain for the upcoming T20I series against the West Indies. The Bangladesh white-ball squad has been navigating leadership challenges, and full-time skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto has been recovering due to a hamstring injury.

‌Litton Das is set to reprise his role as captain for the Bangla Tigers, having previously led the team in a solitary T20I in 2021. The 30-year-old has been entrusted with the leadership by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in light of regular skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto’s unavailability due to a groin injury.

The BCB has yet to make a final decision regarding Shanto's fitness, while uncertainty also looms over Shakib Al Hasan’s availability for international cricket shortly.

The squad sees the return of Shamim Hossain and Ripon Mandal. Shamim last played an international match in December 2023 against New Zealand and has yet to establish himself in T20Is. In 14 innings. Meanwhile, Mandal featured in three T20Is during the Asian Games in Hangzhou and took four wickets as Bangladesh secured a bronze medal. Other additions include fast bowler Hasan Mahmud, left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed, top-order batter Soumya Sarkar and middle-order batter Afif Hossain.
